Tudor Dornescu

A native of Romania, violinist Tudor Dornescu had obtained his Bachelors of Music in Violin performance from the National University of Music from Bucharest, Romania, studio of Gabriel Croitoru. During 2005-06, Mr. Dornescu was an “Erasmus” International Exchange student at the Cork School of Music in Ireland, where he studied with Adrian Petcu and Gregory Ellis. Upon his graduation from the National University of Music from Bucharest in 2007, Mr. Dornescu went to the US where he pursued his Masters Degree in Violin performance from Rice University, Shepherd School of Music in Houston, TX, studio of Sergiu Luca. In 2013 Mr. Dornescu has received his DMA in Violin performance from Boston University College of Fine Arts, under the guidance of Dana Mazurkevich.
A prize winner, Mr. Dornescu has participated in competitions such as the “J.S. Bach Contest” at Boston University, “G. Avakian” and the “Romantic Miniatures”, at which he received the highest honors. Mr. Dornescu has actively participated in masterclasses with world-renowned artists such as Ilya Kaler, Sergiu Schwartz, Sherban Lupu, Yuri Mazurkevich, Ken Aiso, Alberto Lyssy, Liviu Prunaru, Mariana Sarbu and many others. His most recent participations in summer festivals include the 2013 Castleton Music Festival, VA under the guidance of Maestro Lorin Maazel, the 2012 Duxbury Music Festival in Duxbury MA, the 2010 “Spoleto USA” (Charleston, SC) and the “Yehudi Menuhin Summer Academy” (Blonay, Switzerland). Tudor Dornescu has performed across the US and Europe in venues such as Kennedy Center (Washington, DC), Jordan Hall and Symphony Hall (Boston, MA)Concertgebow Amsterdam (Holland), National Concert Hall (Ireland), Romanian Atheneum and the National Radio Hall (Romania), Zilkha Hall (Houston, TX). Since 2007, Mr. Dornescu is an active freelance musician in the Boston area and performs regularly with ensembles such as the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Boston University Marsh Chapel Collegium, Plymouth Philharmonic, Indian Hill Symphony Orchestra, New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Nova, Back-Bay Chorale, Harvard Radcliffe Choral Society, to name but a few.
