Boston-based horn player Roy Femenella has enjoyed a varied career as an orchestral, solo, and chamber musician on several continents. He currently holds the Principal Horn position for the summers seasons of the Orquestra Sinfónica de Minería in Mexico City. Previously, he has been a member of the New World Symphony for the 2017-2020 seasons. He has been a guest musician in some of the world’s leading orchestras including the Metropolitan Opera, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and the Swedish Radio Symphony. He was guest Principal Horn with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa during the 2018-2019 season. As a winner of the New World Symphony’s concerto competition, he gave two performances in January, 2019 at the New World Center of Richard Strauss’ Horn Concerto no. 2 for which he was praised by the South Florida Classical Review for his “tremendous technique and skill.” A graduate of The Juilliard School, he also served as third horn of the Aspen Festival Orchestra for the 2015-17 summer seasons. In February, 2017 he appeared at the Birdfoot Festival in New Orleans where he performed György Ligeti’s Horn Trio in addition to co-presenting an in-concert lecture and discussion on the work as part of the Birdfoot Backstage series. In 2014 he was featured as a guest soloist with the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble performing Richard Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 1. He has appeared regularly with the Princeton Symphony, and was a guest with the Boston-based chamber orchestra A Far Cry for their 2015 U.S. tour. As a chamber musician he has performed with the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players, Sylvan Winds, and on chamber music recitals at the New World Symphony.
