Judy Yaldatel, double bassist and seasoned bass teacher, is a member of the Cape Symphony Orchestra (where she has served as Principal, Assistant Principal, and Section Bassist) and several other orchestras. She holds the position of Principal Bassist of the Chatham Chorale Orchestra and the former Simon Sinfonietta chamber orchestra, among other performing groups. She also was a longtime member of the Plymouth Philharmonic. In addition to being a member of two full-time professional orchestras, she has performed with major opera and ballet company orchestras, and as longtime principal bassist of the Houston Bach Society Orchestra.
Her popular music experience includes performances with the Moody Blues, Willie Nelson, and as the bassist in a swing band.
A sought-after chamber musician and soloist who has won both first place and finalist status in concerto competitions, Ms. Yaldatel is especially proud of the accomplishments of her bass students over the last 25+ years. They have won spots in All District and All State Orchestras, gone on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees at major bass schools such as Oberlin College, Cleveland Institute of Music, and University of North Texas, and attained positions in orchestras, at public schools, and in the President’s Own Marine Band. Many who pursue non-music degrees continue to play bass for the joy of it.
A Massachusetts native and current resident of Hyannis (Barnstable), Ms. Yaldatel maintains her own teaching studio for motivated beginners through professionals of a wide range of ages and backgrounds. She holds bass performance degrees from Rice University Shepherd School of Music (Master of Music) and the University of Michigan (Bachelor of Music, magna cum laude).
