Hungarian concert organist Bálint Karosi is the 1st Prize winner of the XVI International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig, Germany. He studied organ, clarinet and improvisation at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, at the Conservatoire Superieure de Genève and at the Oberlin Conservatory, earning two Master’s Degrees, two “Prix de Virtuosité” and both an Artist Diploma and a Master of Music in Historical Performance. He has won many prizes at prestigious international competitions, including the first prize and the audience prize at the Dublin International Organ Competition, the first prize at the Arthur Poister Organ Competition and the first and audience prize of the Miami International Organ competition.

Bálint is a versatile composer, his organ improvisations and original compositions have been well received in Europe and the United States. This led to a commission of his “Consonances” Concerto for Organ and Symphony Orchestra for the new organ at the National Concert Hall in Budapest. He was featured as a soloist-composer on June 28th 2007. The recording of this concert has been accepted by NPR radio show “Pipedreams” for a National broadcast. His compositions will soon be published by Wayne Leupold Editions Ltd.

An accomplished clarinettist, Bálint won 2nd Prize at the Prague Spring International Clarinet Competition in 2002. He is an active chamber musician regularly playing clarinet and harpsichord in various orchestras and chamber ensembles in the Boston area. He plays both the modern (Buffet Crampon Prestige) and the historical clarinet (Tutz 12 keys, based on a Grenser of 1812 A=430 HZ)
